ESCAPADE OF TWO MINERS! DISTURBANCE AT KOPU HOTEL. Two men, named Hugh Cameron and Hugh Leanne, miners, working at Maratoto, who had been drinking at Thames on Saturday last, left late at night by motor-cay for their camp. On being refused drink at Kopu they used obscene language to the licensee’s wife, who had to'.d them to go away as they could not get liquor. They .then stormed the house; with stones, breaking some of the windows. The matter was reported to the police, and Constable McClinchy, accompanied by Constable Riley, of Thames, se,t out to make inquiries, with the result that the two men were brought before th© Magistrate (Mr J. W. Poynton) at the Thames Court yesterday.

On the charge of being found on licensed premises after hours each accused was fined £1 and costs 19s , ifor wilful damage the fine was £5, costs 15s ; and on the charge of using obscene language Leanne was; fined £2O and costs £1 Is, and Cameron £lO and costs £1 Is, in default six months’ imprisonment. Each offender was allowed one month to' pay the fines.
