THE Hauraki Plains Gazette With which is incorporated THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE. Motto Public Service. MONDAY. WEDNESDAY. & FRIDAY. WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 1926. THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL’S VISIT.

The Borough Council is to be commended for undertaking the responsibilitiy of drawing up a programme for the reception of His Excellency the Governor-General and party. On the previous occasion a public meeting was called, but it was felt: that the notice of this visit was .somewhat short. In any case, a good public spirit has beqn shown by our representatives on the council, and the programme, briefly outlined elsewhere in this issue, seems to be' fairly adequate. However, there is much- for the public to do to assist in carrying out the programmes not only on the day, but in preparation to make the reception befitting of the occasion. Paeroa citizens have in the past always risei) to the need when we have had distinguished . visitors in, our ■midst, and there is no doubt whatever that the duly accredited representative in this Dominion of His Majesty the King will on Thursday, December 9, receive a fitting reception. Every loyal Britisher recognises that the Throne is the keystone-in the arch of this great Empire, upon the solidity of which largely depends the future liberties not only of our own race but of the world. Thqre is much to* be done in preparation for the day, and we are sure that every citizen will rise right loyally to the. occasion and accord Their Excellencies a truly British welcome to Paeroa and district. It is. also hoped that there will be a large gathering from the surrounding districts, particularly of the children from the neighbouring schools.,
