DISTRICT NEWS.
TURUA. CHURCH BAZAAR. The Town Hall, Turua, presented a busy appearance yesterday, when a very successful bazaar in aid of Anglican Church funds was hejd. Five prettily decorated stalls jvtell laden with attractive goods were ranged round the sides, of the hall and brisk business was done from the time the bazaar wajs declared open by Mr T. W. Rhodes, M.P., until late at night, when dancing was commenced. The stallholders; were as follows: Fancy godds, Mesdames C. Stott and F. C. Robinson; sweets, Misses Mules, Madgwick, and Schmidt; flowers, Miss White; sewing, Mesdames Bell, Walker, and T. Scott; cakes, Mesdames Clotworthy a,nd- Sutton; dips, Mrs Pentecost; refreshments, 'Mesdames Henwoo'd, White, Newman, Baigent, and Sweet. Numerous competitions involving degrees of skill and Luck were held, among the. winners being the following : Bull board, Fred Tredaway (45), Mrs G. McMillan (39) ; nail-driving, Miss N. Taylor and Mr F. Scott; quoits, Miss R. Scott and D. G. McMillan ; candle-lighting, Mrs C. Johnston (58) ; lazy stick, T. Hor.tene; length of string (13yds 2ft 9in), Mr T. Pike (14yds) ; buttons in bottle (224), Miss R. Schmidt, correct number ; maize in bottle (470), Mrs E. McConnell, 480 ; nails in bottle (148), Mrs Sweet, 147 ; peas in bottle (191). Miss P. McMillan, 190 ; odds and ends in bottle (185), Mr J. Schmidt, 178; odds and ends in bottle (890), Mrs Dean, 89-5.
