DRAINAGE BOARDS UNION

lIAURAKI AND HORAHIA AREAS. PROCEDURE TO BE FOLLOWED. A copy of the Commission’s report on the question of the union of the Hauraki and Horahia drainage boards was received by the Horahia Board at its meeting on Thursdajy last from the Department of Internal Aifairs through Mr E. L. Walton, solicitor *for the board. A further letter suggested that the following matters be considered ;— "That the two boards suggest what number of trustees the united disrict shall be represented by—the number must not be less than five nor more than seven. Alsp a suitable name for the united district. "The proviso in sub-section 2 of section 15 of the Lands Drainage Act, which states tha,t all engagements, liabilities, and properties; sir all be vested in the board Of the; united district. A certified agreement between the two boards along the lines laid down by the Commissioner’s report is required. “An agreement between the two boards upon the subdivision of the united district and suitable subdivisions, and representatives; “When the districts are united it will be necessary to arrange for the first election and first meeting of the united board.”

The department suggested thajt the two boards should suggest a returning officer and person to prepare the roll of electors. It was also pointed out that on the union of the two districts the trustees, of the two district's shall remain in office until the first election off the trustees for the new district. The matter was discussed in committee with Mr Walton, and on standing orders being resumed the recommendations were not disclosed, but a motion was adopted seeking a conference with the Hauraki Drainage Board.
