DISTRICT NEWS.
TURUA*. CRICKET CLUB. Although the Turua cricketers have played two matches in the Hauraki Plains Cricket Association’s interclub competition it was only last week that the club was actually formed. A meeting was held on Wednesday evening, the Rev.-Averill presiding. The officers appointed were as follows -Patron, Mr A. H. Rogers ; president, the Rev. W. W. Averill; secretary, Mr E. Johnston ; delegates to the Hauraki Plains Cricket Association, Messrs E. Johnston and R. D. Macklow ; club captain, Mr R. D. Macklow; vice-captain, Mr E. Johnston; selector, Rev. Averill; committee, Messrs F. Bell, S. Mephan, W. McEilroy, and the officers.
The annual subscription was fixed at £l.
The club will play on a turf wicket in the domain'this season. The indications are that the club will not lack public support. Six pairs of pads have been donated by an Auckland club, a set of wickets by the Rev. Averill, and a bat by Mr E. Clark. The other gear ne.cessary has been ordered. Members of the club practice twice, weekly.
