DISPOSAL OF AMBULANCE

DISCUSSION BY THAMES BOARD.

A CAR FOR NURSE JARRETT.

At the last meeting of the Thames Hospital Board the question of disposing o>f the old army motor ambulance was discussed.

The chairman (Mr ,W. E. Hale) intimated that permission had been obtained from the depatrment to dispose of the old ambulance, and he would like to have an expression of opinion on the mattqr ffom the members. Mr P.-E. Brenan suggested that the vehicle might be exchanged for a motor-car, which could very well be given to Nurse Jarrett, the district nurse to Natives. Ha reminded the board that in Nurse Jarrett it lra.d a capable and conscientious officer. The distances she travelled on her bicycle, and at all hours,, were very considerable, and he thought .the time was more than opportune, when some better facilities should be provided. He considered that the department should be requested .to make an allowance to cover the running expenses of the car.

In answer to, Mr C. W. Kennedy the chairman said that the old ambulance was a saleable proposition, and would •make a useful commercial vehicle, such as a cream waggon. The engine was a Rover-Sunbeam, and was in good order. The idea of trading it for a car for the nurse to Natives was a good one.

Mr J. W. Danby suggested that tenders should be called for the sale, or exchange of the vehicle. It .was desirable that a five-seater ‘car should be purchased so that Nurse Jarrett would be able to bring patients in to the hospital when necessary.

Oh the motion o>f Mr Brenan it was decided to refer the matter to the ambulance committee, with power to act.
