PAEROA RUGBY UNION.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE.
FINAL BUSINESS OF THE SEASON.
The final meeting of the management committee of the Paeroa Rugby Union for the .1926 season was. held at Mr Bain’s rooms on Monday night, the chairman (Mr W. Pennell) presiding over the following : Messrs W. Morrison, J. Wilson, R. Hodson, E. L. Shaw, R. G. Southby, K. L. Slyfield, T.- P. Vuglar, and J. M. Crosby (secretary). ' EXPENSES OF JUNIOR TEAM, The chairman reported that the social had resulted in a net gain of £lO 2s. After allowing for a number of outstanding accounts the union’s credit balance was approximately £lB. The question of refunding a pa,rt of the travelling expenses of the junior team’s visit to Auckland had to be decided. It was also desirable to hold some money in hand for the commencement of next, sehson. Mr Slyfield moved that under the circumstances, and as no definite promise had been made to the team, the committee regretted it could not contribute anything. . In seconding the resolution Mr Shaw sajd that the players had enjoyed the .trip and were not looking for a refund. This season’s would be senior players next year, and as such would benefit by the union having a credit balance to commence the seasbh. The, resolution was carried. CLEARING OF DOMAIN. The question of clearing the domain of goal-posts and fences was discussed, and it was decided to hold a working bee on Saturday morning. The care of the jerseys and balls w r as given to Mr Hodsofa. ANNUAL MEETING. Some discussion arose as to the holding of the next annual meeting, and the view was expressed that it should be held early in the year. The secretary pointed out that there would probably be a large,? number of Thames Valley Union matches next season, and it was desirable that the club fixtures should be commenced as early as, possible. Mr Hodson moved that the annual •meeting be held during .the last week in March. Seconded by, Mr Shaw and carried. CHARITY SATURDAY. Referring to the proceeds received from the Charity Saturday matches, Mr Shaw suggested that a donation • should be made, td Erie Robson, an East Club player, who was at present • an inmate of a sanatorium. Mr Vuglar said that Robson had been an enthusiastic and promising player, and it was much to be regretted that he was so ill. He considered that the player’s relatives could ve,ry well help him, and that the committee should devote the - money to more pressing cases of hardship. Mr Shaw said he was quite sure that Mr Robson would appreciate some small token from the union. The matte,r was referred to Messrs Southby, Shaw, and Slyfield, with power to act. SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT. Mr Slyfield introduced the question of holding a seven-.a-side tournament next season." He contended that it would encourage training and would; attract attention and support from the public. It was decided to refer the matter to the incoming committee. EULOGISTIC REFERENCES. Being the last meeting of the season, the chairman said .that he thought the union had done good work and a fairly successful season had resulted. He wished to record his thanks and appreciation to the members and secretary for the loyal assistance and co-operation given him. He paid a special tribute to the country members, Messrs. Wilson and Morrison, who had travelled, long distances, frequently in bad weather, in order to attend the meetings and help the game along. The chairman inintimatqd that after giving his services. for two years he would not be seeking re-election next year. To the incoming committee, he wished every success, and trusted that the same harmony and goodfellowship would prevail. In conclusion he desired to recoird thanks to Mr Bain for the free use of his rooms, and also to the “Gazette” for its assistance in furthering the game in the district. ' Mr Shaw paid a tribute to the work of the chairman, who, he said, had been tactful and unbiased in his decisions and had done an enormous lot tdwards placing Rugby on a>gopd footing. In the interests of .the game hfe hoped that Mr Pennell would again' lead the committee next season, Messrs Hodson, Vuglar, Slyfield, and Morrison also added their quota of appreciation of .the services rendered by the retiring chairman. It was decided that letters of S thanks be forwarded to the Referees’ Association, the selectors, and Messrs B. Neil, a ; nd B. Sherriff for valuable services rendered.
