DISTRICT NEWS.

HIKUTAIA. SPORTS CLUBS’ OPENING. Considering the; ioceimency off the weather recently the members of the Hikutaia Bawling, Tennis, and Uro .uet clubs, were very fortunate in having a fine day for their official opening. Numerous guests from all the surrounding clubs were present to partake in the day’s sport. Mr W. H. Alley in the opening speech welcomed the visitors and hoped they would have an enjoyable day. He' then, asked Mrs Alley to bowl the first kitty, and, the bowling green declared open for the season.

Mr Howard Morrison, vice-president, in the unavoidable absence of the president, Mr V. Young, declared the tennis courts open.

Mr G. Avery, president of the Croquet Club, similarly opened the croquet lawn.

The greens were in perfect order, but the asphalt courts have not yet been recoated.

At the closing of the day the presidents and members of visiting clubs thanked the Hikutaia Club for the hospitality shown and wished the members every success for the season.
