BEAUTY IN THE UNIVERSE
A THEOSOPHICAL LECTURE. An interesting address was given by Mrs Hyms, F.T.S., of Auckland, under the auspices of the Theosophical Lodge, Hamilton, recently (states one of the reasons why Sydney has the Times) dealing with God’s aspect of beauty, as seen in man’s divine nature, and in New Zealand’s: glorious heritage of a natural beauty. A comparison was drawn between the people of Australia and the people of New Zealand. While New Zealand, by its configuration, is shaped to beauty, and Australia, on account Of its immensity, has much arid and monotonous country, there is nevertheless in Australia more prevalent artistic expression among the people than is seen in New Zealand. This, for Australia, is a very hopeful .augury, as true artistic expression precedes spirituality, and maybe .this is oneo f the reasons why Sydney has. been chosen as one oif the four great spiritual centres of the world. The real prosperity of a country depends more on its culture and promise Of spiritual development than on its gold chests, or the excellence of its bee# and mutton.
The lecturer believes that when New Zealanders awaken to the fact of their priceless heritage of natural beauty as seen in our mountain valleys, lakes, and rivers, she will produce a people who, by the excellence of their culture and sincere appreciation of nature’s loveliness in their own homeland will usher in a Golden Age.
