ODDFELLOWS LODGE MATCH. PAEROA DEFEATS WAI KINO. On Saturday afternoon last members of the Loyal Jubilee (Oddfellows Lodge,, Paeroa, journeyed to Waikino and played a match against the Waitekauri Golden Cross Oddfellows. The teams were evenly matched, and a. rea.lly good game resulted in the visitors Winning by 9 points to 5. The following were the teams : — Loyal Jubilee. —K. Dean, H. Grant, J. Verran, J. Goonan, Dalziell, J. Conoily, R. Swann, W. Nealie. J. Morriison, A. Duncan, G. Neil, V. Carrick, J. Watt, D. Snow, T. Robinson. Waikino. —J. Hicks, Marley, Keohan, Franks, A. Hawthorne, E. Smith, G. McClintock, C. Jesney, A. Campbell, A. Brown, J. Kinsella., J. McAra, H. Bristen, W. Cumming*, A. Robinson. The home side kicked off and made a forward rush which looked dangerous, but Neil saved the situation by running across and forcing. Throughout the quarter play Was fast, and both teams played with dash. The most noteworthy incident during the spell was a home forward being pena,llisqd, but Dean failed with the kick.
After the change-over the vistors went down the field, Robins,on gaining possession, and after ,a short run he cross-kicked to the wing for Verran to score a good try. Swann failed with the kick. Paeroa 3, Waikino 0. From the kick-out Waikino pressed hard, being unfortunate in not scoring. In tight play Dean picked up and found the line. From the line-out Duncan broke through with the ball at toe, but a good chance to score was spoiled by over-eagerness, the ball reaching the dead-ball line. In the home team’s twenty-five Hicks kicked the ball, which rebounded off Watts and gave him a cle,ar run to score a try. Dea.n failed to convert. Paeroa 6, Waikino 0.
On resuming after half-time the Waikino forwards set up an attack and reached the posts, Dean saving with a force. The drop-out was followed up by Paeroa for Swann to send but in touch.
Matters livened up in the last quarter. Pa.ero.a followed up the the opening kick, but the home forwards stopped the rush and took a turn on the attack, carrying into Paeroa’s, twentyfive. Goonan gained possession and, beating all opposition, ran through and scored a clever try. The kick by Swann was unsuccessful. Paeroa 9> Waikino 0. Waikino attacked, and in tight play Campbell picked up and dived over the line, Marley converting. Paeroa 9, Waikino 5. Mr N. O’Neill was referee.
After the match the visitors were hospitably entertained to afternonon tea by the sisters, of the lo'dge, and an enjoyable hour was spent. On behalf of the Loyal Jubilee Ledge Bro. K. L. Slyfiehl thapked the Waikino lodge for its hospitality and the hearty welcome accorded the visitors. He expressed the hOpe that the interlodge games would be encouraged, and that the fraternal, as, well as the sporting, side would prosper and increase.
