STREET LIGHTS.
ILLUMINATION OF BOROUGH.
REPORT OF COUNCIL COMMITTEE.
During last month a special committee, comprsing Crs. H. J. Haye, F*. E. Flatt, and G. P. de Cas.tro, was set up to inspect all .the electric street* 1 lights in the borough. At the. last meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council the following report was submitted :—
“We have made an inspection of present light within the borough, and recommend the following alterations and additions :—
"Remove, lamp at Mrs Beattie’s to opposite side, on to pole at Mr TaJboy’s lower boundary. Place a reflector behind the light at hospital site, opposite Russell Street. Remove lamp in front of Stanton’s house to opposite side on to pole at corner Of Thorp Street.
“The lights in upper Russell, Wood, Nahum, and Victoria streets, and round to the Methodist Hall, appear quite satisfactory. We recommend that the lajnp next the. Centenary Hall be removed to opposite pole near the domain gate, and the lamp at the corner of King Street and Arney Street be removed and placed on opposite high pole at the side of Primrose Hill.
"We re.commend that the lamp near Mr Tierney’s, Station Road, be removed to one pole nearer Thames Road, and a,n extra light be placed on the pole opposite; Mr Julian’s shanty. Also that two 1 extra lamps be provided, ohq to be placed in centre of Bradley Street and one in centre of Albert Stree,t.
“Remove lamp at corner of Rye Lane and Prospect Terrace to pole Opposite, just below Mr Edwards* front gate. This, we believe, will give a better distribution of the light and throw same towards Rye Lane bridge and further over the brow of the hiil towards Mr Towers’, and still serve Prospect Terrace.
“The lamp in Hill Street just low Mr Malcolm’s house requires a reflector to 1 throw more light in opposite, direction. An extra lamp is required in Hill Street near Mr Bridge’s back gate, but we. understand that the Railway Department is about to light up* the overhead pedestrian bridge, and until this is accomplished and the effect noted we advise waiting.
“All other lights, including lowen Hill Street, Puke Road, Railway Street, Puke Road, Ra.ilw.ay Street, Junction Road, etc., appear to us td be quite satisfactory at present.” The report was received, and it Was agreed to give effect to the, recommendations with the following except tions : removal of lamp from opposite Mrs Beattie’s, and the evtra lights for Station Road and Bradley Street.-
