SHOP AT HOME,
MAIL ORDER FALLACY. COMMERCE CHAMBER’S COMMENT. The amount of money lured out of Hamilton to cities per medium of the mail order business was commented on strongly at Tuesday night’s meeting of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce (states the Waikato Times). The fallacy of the whole thing must said Mr A. M. Bisley, be very apparent to thinking people, yet it was surprising ho’w much money went out of the district in this way which should be kept here. After all, the progress bf a town depended upon the business do>ne in it, and it was a distinct folly for the people to send their money to the cities iji the mistaken.belief that they were getting some special bargain. The president, Mr F. H. Clapham;. agreed that the subject was a most' important one to the whole com-* munity, not merely the business section. He 'favoured the establishment, of a “shop at home” campaign* and! considered that this matter should be kept constantly before- the public. It was perhaps not so much the. wage-? earner who was the 'chief in this direction. It was. rather thisman in the more favoured position? and who should know better. - ■ The matter will again come up for? discussion at a future meeting. -
