PAEROA TENNIS CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the Paeroa La,wn Tennis Club was held at the Centenary Hall on Monday evening last, when an attendance of 22 memberfe> was presided over by the president (Mr R. B. Penlington).

In the annnual report mention was made of the three new courts which were laid down last season and of the fine financial position of the club, which now has a surplus of assets over liabilities of over £lBO, even after further writing down of material. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr W. Marshall; president, Mr R. B. Penlington; vicepresident, Mr R. L. Miller ; secretary and treasurer, Mr G. Masters; club captain, Mr H. Thorp ; auditor, Mr W. L. Lawrence; committee, Misses A. Argali, L. Thorp, K. O’Grady, Messrs Hedge, Leach, Poland, F. Thorp, and C. P. Topliss.

It was decided to give the .auditoian honorarium of half a guinea in recognition of several years’ honorary work.

The green superintendent, Mr H. Thorp, reported that the lawns were in splendid condition tor this season, though there was a good deal of cutting and rolling still necessary. Unfortunately, during the last gale a portion of the fence was blown ddwn, and' this was now being attended to. The following recommendations were made to the incoming committee :— i

"That it should do all in its power to encourage school tennis on lines similar to the previous yQar. "That handicap singles and doubles cdmpetitionls be held, entries to close not later th,an 14 days from the date of opening, the committee to decide the partners in the doubles. “That if possible the courts, open on Saturday, October 23.”
