SUMMER SPORTS.

lIAURAKI PLAINS CLUBS. PREPARATIONS FOR SEASON. Preparations are being made oh the liauiaki Plains for the opening of the season for summer sports, but, probably largely on account of the weather, these have mostly been of a formal nau re. Many tennis and a few cricket clubs have had their annual genera! meetings, and a few enthusiasts have been seen working on courts and pitches, but so far there has been little actual playing. However those in close touch with the two branches of sport state that the present lack of interest does not mean a falling off of enthusiasm, but the indications are that when the season openg properly thhre will be more players and greater memberships than ever before. Most of the clubs are now well established, thus there is not the need s.o apparent in previous seasons of striving to obtain better playing conditions. TENNIS CLUBS. The Waitakaruru Tennis Club anticiaptes a strong membership this sea,son. he club is in a better financial position than previously, and with the three courts; which it is hoped to have available shortly the club will be in a position to take new members. The officers for the season are as follows: President, Mr A l . H. McClean ; secretary, Mr L. Williams; treasurer. Mr D. MoleSworth ; delegate to Association, Mr A. H. McClean; committee, Messrs M. Williams, R. Barlow, K. Barker, and the officers. The Hopai Club has reappointed the officers of last season, namely t President, Mr S Coppins ; secretary, Mr S. Coppins,- junr.; club captain, Mr E. Coppins ; delegate, Mr A. R. Vowles. The opening day has been fixed for November 13.

The Kerepeehi Club, which will hold its opening day on the 16th inist., has appointed the following officers for the season: President, Mr J. H. Nicholson; vice-presidents, Mess.rs G. Boswell and B. Frecklington; secretary, Mr E. Smart; delegate, Mr B. Frecklington ; committee, Mesdames Hudson, Rogers, and ©’Loughlin, and Messrs Hudson, A. Nicholson, E. Clay, and J. Kidd. There is still little enthusiasm in Ngatea, and the annual meeting, which was held recently, was adjourned op account of the smallness of the attendance.
