TURUA TOWN HALL.
OPENING BALL. A BRILLIANT FUNCTION. “Opening night” at the Turua Town Hall was without doubt the most brilliant event in the history of that old township... The 360-odd dancers who gathered from all parts of the Plains IaSH evening were not disappointed, for it is safe to say that everything possible to ensure the ball being a success from all viewpoints had been -carried out to the letter. Except for a, few palms, and vasej of flowers to camouflage the cinema screen, the hall was not decorated--it did not need decorating. The new hall does not require gaudy decorations to hide dark rafters and ugly walls. It provides light—bright light tb dilspel the gloom of a monotonous werk-a-day existence and show to advantage the riot of colour of evening dresses. The new floor was springy and good to dance upon, and thongii the number of dancers present was probably almost double the record of any other Plains hall the floor was. not unduly crowded. As -usual, Pickford’s- Paeroa Players provided excellent dance music, and contributed in no small way to the enjoyment of the evening. An elaborate supper was served, in relays on the stage, there being seating accommodation for 150 persons. As- elsewhere, the arrangements here had evidently been in capable hands, and were carried out without a hitch, thus there was not that tedious delay -that ha.s marred so many functions of the kind.
The proceeds of the ball will be devoted to the furnishing of the hall, and it is safe to say that if the Hall Company continues holding functionsof the same standard as its opening one the financing of its undertaking should not be difficult.
