DISTRICT NEWS.
KEREPEEHI. LAWN TENNIS CLUB. ' The annual general meeting of the Kerepeehi Lawn Tennis Club was held on Tuesday, September 21, in the Kerepeehi Hall, there being an attendance of 28 members. The retiring committee presented a report upon a most successful year’s operations from all viewpoints. In spite ,of heavy expenditure upon new courts and equipment, the past season ended with a credit balance of £l7 Is Bd, thanks, to the. energies of all members. Several dances were held during the season and, together with a most successful garden fete, helped materially to swell the club funds. The club membership stood at about fifty members;. During the season the B team annexed the Hauraki Plains B grade competition, and now held the Hayward Shield, while the A team, though not successful, rendered gobd. accounts of themselves. Mesdames O’Loughlin and Hudson were successful in. winning the ladies’ doubles handicap in the Hauraki Plains Association’s competitions while other members, performed creditably.
The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted : President, Mr J. Nicholson, senr.; viice-pr'e.sidents, Messrs B. Boswell and B. Frecklington; secretary, Mr E. C. Smart; committee, Mesdames Hudson, O’Loughlin, Rogers, and Messrs J. Kidd, N. Clay, A. Nicholson, and Hudson; delegate to Hauraki Plains Association, Mr B. Frecklington ; selector, Mr Hudson ; auditor, Mr Hudson.
It wfts decided to proceed with resurfacing both courts, the renewal of the wire-netting round the courts, and the erection of a pavilion. Noitce of motion was given that a general meeting be called with the object of increasing the annual subscription which is the lowest in the district.
Opening day was; fixed for Saturday, October 16, and an ihvitatiohi w £ extended to members! of neighbouring clubs to be present.
NGATEA. SPORTS CLUBS’ DANCES. The Ngatea Football Club and the Ngate.a Tennis Club have cotabiried to carry on the weekly dances and progressive euchre tournaments commenced some time ago in aid of the Catholic Church funds. The first function was. held on Saturday last, when there was a good attendance of Ngatea, Ke.repeehi, hjid Pipiroa people. The music was supplied by Messrs Rooney and Ludlow (piano), and King (flute). Mr Berte.lsen was M.C. The euchre prizes were won by Mesdames New’dick and Vowles and Messrs Wade and Wylde.
