ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report for the year ended July 31, 1926, was read as follows: “Your committee has pleasure in submitting for the consideration of members the annual statement of accounts for the year ended July 31, 1926.

“A perusal of the balance-sheet shows that the club has agajn experienced a satisfactory result from the year’s working. After providing by way of depreciation the sum of £994 12s a profit remained of £639 14s 9d. A refund of £250 of totalisator taxation granted under the Finance Act, 1925, was received siiibsequent to July 31, and is, therefore uot included in the balance-sheet; otherwise the profit would ha,ve, been shown as £250 greater. The anfount provided for depreciation, namely, £994 12s, represents £3OO on buildings other than stewards’ stand, £591 4s 9d on stewards’ stand, £lOO on the A.C.C. Breeders’ Association account, and £3 7s 3d on the stock account.

“The race meeting held in March last marked the 50th year of the club’s existence, and to commemorate the event the committee provided a very handsome gold jubilee cup for the principal race. The meeting was held in fine weather and wasi highly successful from all points of view. The stakes provided amounted to £4lBB, being £513 in excess; of the previous year. This compares very favourably with that provided by many clubs that are grajited two and even three meetings annually. “Improvements to the course have been carried out during the year, and an niside training track laid down and fenced off which will be a great convenience to owners and trainers.

“For some time past the committee has given much consideration to the question of increased, accommodation in the grandstand enclosure, and finally decided to move the grandstand some'distance back fiolm its original position, and then, by making a uniform slope of the ground between the stand in its. new position and the racing track, to provide for a very much increased number of spectators a firstclass view of the various races. This work is now well forward, and will undoubtedly be greatly appreciated by the club’s patrons. One of the many attractions the Ohinemuri Club provides is the excellent view, of the dif-ferent-events for both inside and outside spectators.” Mr W. Moore asked for the details, of the salary and wages amounting to £460.

The secretary, in explanation, said tha;t the amount consisted of the salary of the secretary and all the officials connected with the two days’ me,eting. The caretaker's) salary had always been set out separately. Referring to the item df £179 9s, Mr Poland said that it consisted levies to the N.Z. Racing Conference, proportion of law costs to cither affiliated clubs, and several local donations..

The chairman moved the. adoption of the balance-sheet and report. He; considered that the position disclosed was very good, so much so that the committee hoped to wipe out the. mortgage of £3OOO when it became, due next July. Mr W. Neil seconded, and the motion wajs carried. ELECTION OF COMMITTEE. Messrs. Edwards, E. Shaw, Shand, and Hodson were elected scrutineers, and declared the following four members re-elected: Messrs H. R. Bush (84), F. E. Flatt (81), E. P. Fathers (79), and J. Clarfein (74). Mr J. M. Crosby (26) was the. other aspirant to the committee.

In returning thanks Mr H. R. Bush sajd it Was gratifying to him to know that due could go put of the town and still retain the confidence of the members of the club. He thanked them for the confidence shown in him. Mr F. E. Flatt said he w.as pleased to be returned. It was his first election after his first term of three year's. He would still try to put better efforts into the club. Mr E. P. Fathers said that his motto was, “clean sport.” He was; always a worker, and thanked the members for returning him to the committee.

Mr J. Clarkin sHjd he had been oh the committee for. 24 years and was pleased to be returned. Like Mr Bush, he was away from Paeroa, but was

ndw in the Ohinemuri County and ifis •interests in the club were as keen a ever.

Mr J. M. Crosby also thanked those who voted for him.- His view in standing was- to try and enthuse a little more life into the club. He hoped at some future time to agaip contest a seat on the committee.

Mr Flatt said that he had had it brought under his, notice that in three instances members had lost their voting papers. He asked if theite. was apy way in which a fresh voting paper could be given.

The chairman sai<J that last year the papers were numbered, but exception had been taken to it. He did not know how it could be arranged.

The secretary said that should look after their voting papers. It was impossible to give out more than one voting paper to each member. Mr E. Edwards said he would like to express his appreciation of the work carried out by the committee, and moved a hearty vote, of thanks to the officials and committee for the work done, last year.

This was seconded by Mr Crosby and carried by acclamation.

The chairman, in acknowledging the vote, said that it was scarcely necessary, as every member of the club, as well as the committee, endeavoured to further the interests of the club and so promote the “Sport of Kings.”
