PAEROA RUGBY UNION. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The weekly meeting of the management committee Of the Paeroa Rugby Union was held at Bain’s rooms on Monday evening, the chairman (Mr W. Pennell) presiding over the following : Messrs R. T. Hodson, K. L. Slyfiekl, R. G. Southby, E. Shaw, J. Rackham, J. Wilson, W. Morrison, and JM. Crosby (secretary). FRIENDLY SOCIETY MATCHES. An- application from the Loyal Jubilee Lodge, Paeroa to play two matches ,w!as received. —Granted. In connection with the Druids’ banner competition, permission was granted the Paeroa Druids’ Lodge to play Waikino on the No. 1 ground on October 9. Permission to charge admission was also granted provided the union received half the gate takings. TOUR OF JUNIOR TEAM.
The question of sending a, representative junior team on tour was further considered.
The secretary reported that he had not been able to arrange for a match at Rotorua, but a game at Matamata c'duld be arranged. In answer to Mr Southby the secretary said that the Auckland Union matches were now completed and it was not possible to arrange an official match at Auckland.
Mr Slyfiejd said he understood that a team of Auckland old boys would be willing to arrange a game for the Paeroa representatives, and would assist towards entertaining the team.
Mr Shaw said that he thought the juniors deserved a trip, and the union should make an effort to 1 arrange one. The union should be in a position to pay the boat fares of the team and arrange a match at Auckland for October 16.
The secretary pointed out that it would cost about £23 for fares alone, and unless voluntary help' was forthcoming the finances would not permit of the expense. Probably the money could be raised by means of the social to be held in November, but the money would have to be found in the meantime. So far as the trip to Matamata was concerned the expenses would be very little. 1 Mr T. M. Wilkinson suggested that the juniors should travel W Matamata on Saturday next, and in the meantime an endeavour might be made to rais.e funds for a trip to Auckland on October 16.
Mr Shaw agreed, and moved a motion on those lines which was carried. Mr Rackham was appointed manager for the Matamata trip''. CHARITY SATURDAY. It was decided to make Saturday next Charity Saturday. The fixture agreed to was a match between the Thames Valley Power Board (Paeroa and Te Aroha) and the Railways (Paeroa and Te Aroha), for a, shield presented by Mr R. Sprague. In accordance with the previous arrangement it was decided that the game be played at Herries Memorial Park, Te Aroha, commencing at 2 p.m. ,and that the proceeds be equally divided between Pa,eroa and Te Ardha Charities nominated by the Piako and Paeroa Unions.
