HOSPITAL REPORTS.

THAMES INSTITUTIONS; PROGRESS DURING AUGUST. The following reports for the month of August were submitted to Monday’s meeting of the Thames Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. SURGEON’S REPORT. The acting medical superintendent (Dr. A. S. Gray) reported that 62 males a,nd 49 females had been admitted during the month and 50 males and 37 females had been discharged. There were 31 males and 32 females remaining in the institution at date. Nineteen males and 3 females, involving 121 attendances, were the figures for the out-patients’ department. There were 7 deaths during the mdnth. In connection with the appointment of House Surgeon the chairman (Mr W. EL Hale) said that Dr. Eginton had been with the board for 12 months, and had performed very satisfactory service. He was of the Opinion that his salary should be increased, .providing it was Dn Eginton’s intention to remain with the institution. Mr Danby pointed out the difficulty of obtaining the services of a hdtise surgeon during a mid-term. Mr Kennedy said that Dr. Egintoh had rendered yeoman service, and he moved .that Dr. Eginston’s salary be increased by £25. —Agreed to. MATRON’S REBORT. The matron (Miss K. M. Ansenne) reported at length on staff matters. The number of births at the matern-. ity annexe was nine, and three patients apd five babies .w.ere remaining at date. TARARU HOMES. The superinendent of the Tararu Homes, Mr W. D. Gilmore, reported that thqre were twelve males, and three females in the institution at date, the conduct of whom ha,d been very good. Matters • connected with the farm were proceeding satisfactorily. The Thames Fire Brigade, had presented a, rope ladder fire escape to the homes during the mdnth. Mr Hall stated that the farm was now. in a particularly saisfactory condition. NATIVE NURSE. The nurse to Natives (Nurse J. M. Jarrett) advised that she had attended and advised 14 patients and had nursed 48 patients, in addition to attending one European and one Maori confinement. Eighteen pahs had been visited, and three. schools. Lectures had been given on the care of the sick, influenza and its treatment, and typhoid and reasons for its isolation. The total number of visits was 226, and fees collected for nursing services amounted to’ £l. , > PATETONGA NURSE.

The Pa,tetonga district nurse (Miss McNamara) reported having attended eleven patients during the month. Fee t s. totalled 16s fid.
