DISTRICT NEWS.

NGATEA. STREET LIGHTS. An alteration and extension of the Ngatea street lighting scheme was proposed at the annual meeting of contributors last week. It was suggested that possibly the bridge light could be increased from 500* candlepower to 1000 c.p., and thereby do away with the need for the lights at the corners of the road to Kaihere and the road to the wharf. An experiment on those lines will be made, and if successful lights will be placed on the road to the saleyards corner. A light on the road to Puhanga was also suggested. A committtee comprising Messrs. E. Wajton, F. Basham, G. Crofckford, W. G. Hayward, H. Dent, and E. Mahoney (secretary) was set up to control the lighting scheme. The scheme is financed by contributions of £1 from residents in the township and 10s from residents outside the township.
