LAST NIGHT'S ENTERTAINMENT.

AN ENJOYABLE TIME SPENT.

The dance and euchre tournament promoted by the Paeroa Lawn Tennis Club and held at the Gaiety Theatre last night proved an unqualified success. The secretary (Mr J. B. Bigelow), ably supported by a.n energetic committee, left nothing undone to ensure the comfort and enjoyment of patrons. The enchanting music contributed by the Symphony Orchestra, ahd the fact that the floor was in particularly good order, caused the; hours elf pleasure to pass all tool quickly, and dancing was not concluded until an early hour this morning. Messrs R. B. Penlington ; and J. M. Crosby were the M’s..C., and were most attentive to the,ir duties. . The euchre tournament, which was held on the stage, was in charge of Messrs A. F. Grant ahd T. H. Hale, whohhad a busy time superintending the large, number of players as competition for the choice prizes was, very keen.

During the supper adjournment the president (Mr Penlington) announced that the; club was now in a very satisfactory position, possessing as it did seven grass courts. He reminded members that from now onwards there was, a considerable amount of work to be done- on the, courts, and he appeal’ ed for voluntary helpers to come forward and assist with the work, sb that the season could be commenced as soon as possible. He then called upon the patron (Mr W. Marshall) to present the euchre prizes won that evening.

The opportunity was taken by Mr Marshall to congratulate the club on its good position. He, said that it.had been no small undertaking to' have secured so fine a property and to have put down seven courts in 's,uch a short space of time. Experience showed that the heayy work Usually fell to the lot of the faithful few, and he hoped sincerely that the president’s appeal for assistance would not fall on deaf ears. Immediate help Was required to bring to consummation the full use of all the courts. In conclusion the speaker, on behalf of the club, thanked the donbrs of prizes, the pub’ lie for liberal support accorded, and a,ll who had assisted to make the function such a success. A special tribute of praise was, accorded the ladies who had shouldered the responsibility of providing the delicious supper, I
