Some little time ago a youth alleged that in the early hours of the morning one of the constables- on night duty in Gisborne ha.d treated him in an improper manner, and that another constable whjo- was present did not interfere. The matter was the subject of an exhaustive inquiry before Inspector Eccles, one of the constables being represented by' counsel. After hearing all the evidence the inspector forwarded this on to the Gqmmissionei’ of Police at Wellington, together with his recommendation in the matter, and word has now been received that the services of both constables aye to bo dispensed with as from August 31.
