EXPERIMENTS AT TURUA.
DETAILS OF THE SCHEME.
Following the offer of Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., made at the annua) meeting of the Hauraki Plains Co-operative Dairy Co>., Ltd., to establish experimental plots at Turua to show the effects of various fertilisers-, the manager of the firm selected a site on the farm of Mr H. H. Hicks for the purpose and has now forwarded (letajis of the scheme.
An area of two acres, w’ill be utilised, and of this one acre will be fenced off by Mr Hicks to prevent it being grazed by stock' and to enable the growth and quality of the grasses to be judged. On the area outside the fence it will be, possible to observe which plot is-preferred by the cattle. Down the middle of the fenced portion there will be. a plot on which no fertiliser will be used. Six plots, each of l-6th of an a.cre, are to be marked off by small pegs driven into the ground. Each plot; will be half inside, and half outside the fenced enclosure. The fertilisers to be used on the six plots are, respectively: Basic super, super, basic slag, ammonia top-dress-ing,-potash top-dressing, and special top-dressing. The firm will supply 's6lb of each manure, but only '46lb will actually be required, the few pounds extra, being possibly necessary for losses- in handling.
