Saturday marked the 12th anniversary of the occupation of Samoa by the N.Z. Defence Forcesi.
The sum of £103,616 has been raised in Britain and overseas, for the national memorial to the late Queen Alexandra.
The amount received in members’ subscriptions by the Paeroa Bowling Club last season totalled £ll6, while outstanding amounted to £9 18s- 6d. The club’s • exeqss of assets over liabilities total £29 16s sd.
Cabinet, after giving the matter consideration, has informed Mr Alex. Harris, M.P., through the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. R. F. Bollard) that the Waitemata harbour bridge lottery scheme cannot be permitted.
The weather locally still continues ■to bo. wet, cold, and miserable. Although no rain fell during the hours of daylight on Saturday a cold northerly wind prevailed, aihd there were only a few periods of sunshine. Heavy showers' of .r,ain have fallen intermittently since early yesterday morning.
Under the command of Captain Emmott, the local Girl Guide Company Church Pa.rade at the Presbyterian Church on Sunday mdrning.. This, the first church parade of the Guides, was- well attended, and the discipline and bearing of the Guides became the subject of praise and reflected credit on the commanders. The Rev. John Lowden took as. the, subject of his-address “The Little Maid of Samaria,” through whom Naamun, the Syrian general, visited Elisha the prophet and became cleansed of hi,s leprosy. The speaker drew in bold relief the virtues of fidelity and. grit portrayed in the little maid iii a strange land as worthy of example.
The reservation over tlie Waihi Doma.in of 120 acres (known as the racecourse reserve) has been cancelled by Parliament under the Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Bilk on the ground that the domain is noi longer required for public purposes, and its sale is authorised. The receipts are to be used for buying other land fob the purposes- of a domain or to be paid to’ the credit of the sinking fund of tlie Wa,ihi Borough Council’s lo.an \for the purchase of a pleasure ground at the Waihi Beach.
On Saturday next th'e Ngatea Football Club’s senior team will probably visit Auckland and play a city team.

A single bedroom was difficult to obtain under 8s 6d, which was one of the low-priced ones, while in the more comfortable hotels, though by no means the ‘‘swell” houses, the prices ranged round about l'ss, while on t.op of this- it was quite a common thing to be charged Is 6d. for a' cold shower.
