MINING.
RISING SUN AND MAORTLAND. Reporting for the week ended August 21 the manager of the Rising Sun mine (Owharoa) states tha,t stoping operations Were carried out on the various ore producing blocks without change. In the drive south from the rise, No. 3 reef, showed an average width of 36 inches, but, being split, this made the work slow. The ore crushed during the period amounted to 62 tons-, worth £5 10s per ton. The manager of the Maori! and mine (Waitekauri), reporting for the fortnight ended August 21, advises that he located the pass connecting with the rise from No. 4 level, a,nd found it covered with debris from the stopes overhead. This he hoped to have cleared away in a few days, after which there would be a current ol air to the low level (No. 4), permitting of a resumption of work.
