POISON IN PETS.

DANGER IN DOMESTIC ANIMALS. INFECTIONS FROM FONDLING. Illness, and even de.ath, may lurk in the domestic animals hitherto regarded as harmless pets. This fact says the “Weekly Dispatch,’’ is revealed by a number of cases, that have recently come under the notice of doctors. In each instance peculiar symptoms of poisoning manifested themselves, and these symptoms were ultimately found to have been 'caused by substances or genmsj in the fur or feathers off household pets. “It should be realised —it cannot be realised too soon—that carejess kissing or fondling of cats and dogs or allowing them to lick the face and hands is liable to be a highly infectious process,,” said a Harley Street physician. “In a recent case that came under my observation two people died as the result otf infection from a pet parrot. We were unable to isolate the germ responsible, but we definitely traced the cause df illness to the bird.”
