THAMES HOSPITAL.
MEETING OF BOARD. ROUTINE BUSINESS. ■ The monthly meeting of tlje Thames Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held dn Monday, the chairman (Mr W. E. Hale) presiding over the*following: Messrs A. R, Rbbinson, J. Rowe, AV. J. Hall, J. Lange, C. ML Kennedy, E. L. Walton, C. W. Parfitt, J. W. Danby, and the secretary, Mr G. Tonge. SUPERINTENDENT. The Director-General of Health wrote' approving of Dr. William Sow- . erby as. medical superintendent of the Thames Hospital. Dr. Sowerby also wrote thanking the board 'for having, appointed him (j} and advised that his appointment at the Queen Mary Hospital, Hanmey Springs, did not expire: until August 31, apd that it would be about the middle or September before eomd take up his. new appointment. The chairman intimaed. that the department had been approached and requested to release; Dr. Sowerby as early as possible. The department replied that the doctor would be- in a position tc take up his duties a,bout September 15. TRAINING FOR MIDWIVES.' The Nurses and Midwives Registration Board wrote stating that the regulations provided that in granting recognition to any hospital as a training school the board shall specify the number of trainees, who might be trained therein each year ; also that the acceptance of the hospital of a larger number cif trainees than the number specified would be a ground (for the cancellation of thq recognition of the hospital as a training school. It had been decided that the maximum number of trainees to be trained for a period cjf twelve monthsi at the local maternity annexe was two as maternity nurses. The board also forwarded a lis,t of standard books decided uppin, and advised that in future examination papers would be based on the text books prescribed.
RECIPROCITY BETWEEN BOARDS. The Waihi Hospital Board wrote a,dvising that it was not prepared to comply with a request toi enter into a reciprocal arrangement a,t the present timn.
The Coromandel Hospital Board wrote with regard to the reciprocal arrangement and inquired l if. the board would agree to an arrangement in ternjs of section 6 (1), of the Amending Act, 1925, apd treat the districts of Coromandel and Thames as.t now contiguous l districts, which would mean that neither board would make claim for maintenance of patients from the other district. . The chairman said that the arrangement was quite satisfactory and would be entered into for 12 months. Mr Rowe remarked that it was a pity the Waihi Bbiard could not fall into line with adjacent boards. Mr Kennedy said that the Waihi Board was not in a position financially to do so. RESIGNATION OF NURSE. Nurse J. M. Robb wrpite resigning her position on account pif ilt-health. Accepted with regret. ~~ BENEVOLENT LEAGUE. The Hauraki Benevolent League forwarded accounts totalling £9 7s 9d, a,fad requested a donation. The. usual donation of £lO was made.. ACCOUNTS. Accounts totalling £1834 8s 5d were passed for payment. REPORTS IN COMMITTEE. The board went into committee for the purpose of discussing a claim submitted by a Paeroa solicitor on behalf of an ex-patient. On resuming in open meeting a resolution wa's carried to the effect that the board disclaimed liability, and that the letter be handed to the board’s solicitors to reply. .
The question of. fire-fighting facilities at the, district homes, Tararu, was also discussed, in committee, and the matter was referred to the chairman and Messrs. Lange and Ro’we. COMMITTEES.
