HOSPITAL REPORTS.

THAMES INSTITUTIONS. PROGRESS DURING JULY. The. following reports for the month of July were submitted at Monday’s meeting of the Thames Hospital and Charitable Aid Board :— SURGEON’S “REPORT. The acting resident surgeon (Dr. A. S. Gray) reported that 44 males and 32 females had been admitted during the month, 4.5 males and 37 females had been discharged, and 25 males and 21 females were remaining at date. There were eight deaths, including four pneumonic cases. Twen-ty-three males, and one. female had received treatment as out-patients. Involving 108 attendances. Operations weye performed on 20 males; and 23 females. The report added that several of the deaths had occurred within a few hours of admission. MATRON’S REPORT. The matron (Miss K. M. Ansenne) reported at length on staff matters, and mentioned that .the cockroaches were at present very troublesome. There were four births at the annexe during the month, and three patients and one baby were remaining at date. With regard to the cbjckroacKes, the secretary was instructed to endeavour to get in touch with the man who had undertaken to rid the in-, stitution of the pests. In reply to Mr Parfitt the chairman said that the expert had been paid in advance on the understanding that he would keep the cockroaches, down at the hospital and homes for two years. ■ ENGINEER’S REPORT. The engineer (Mr A. M. Somerville) reported that the coal consumption for the mo>nth was 57% tons. The steam raidators had been in operation in- all wards for 24 hours, daily during the month. Repairs were made to steam pipes at the annexe and operating theatre. TARARU HOMES.' The superintendent of the District Homes (Mr W. D. Gilmore) reported that 14 males and 3 females remained at date, and two; males, had been admitted during the. month. The conduct of the inmates had been very good. Several had been laid up with influenza. The recent mild weather had had a beneficial effect on the farm, and there was. an ample supply of green feed.
