WORKS IN THE COUNTY.
PROGRESS REPORT BY ENGINEER.
FUOOD DAMAGE DURING JULY.
The following report for the mopth of July was submitted, by the engineer (Mr E. Shaw) to Thursday’s meeting <X the Ohinemuri County Council:—
"Proposals were sent forward for approval for the works mentioned in last report, namely, Trig Road and Pukekauri Road. A list of thirds accruing to March 31, 1926, came to hand, and a scheme for expenditure of sfame was sent forward and returned approved. "The following works have been completed: Formation of Cadman Road, and the widening and deepening’ of Komata outfall drajn. “Considerable additional damage was done to the surfacing of the metalled roads by the; late storm, and minor damage to other roads in the way of slips, wash-outs, etc, principally on Komata Reefs Road and Whangamata Road. Erosion of the hank took place upder the Komata bridge, and it will be necessary to put in a netting groyne to save further scourting.”
Cr. F. C. Hubbard said that as the work would be a, main highways charge he would move that the engineer be empowered l .to proceed with the provision ctt a groyne. “The baance of the metal for Waikino has been delivered and placed on the various roads, and also metal for Kaimanawa roa-ds is: being placed when supplies are procurable - , . “The scarifying and rolling of. the main highway at Tirohia has been completed, and the machine is now engaged in scarifying a short strip of the road between Mill Road and the Paeroa borough boundary. When this is completed a start will be. made on Thames Rtoad. Several strips of thei summer road in the vicinity of Tirohia were improved with the
grader. /‘lt will be necessary in the near future to renew the present over the Rotokohu stream at J. Barrett’s place, Rotokohu, in the Kara,ngahake riding. The principal materials for the bridge can be obtained from stock. This work can be done by the surfaceman.” It was resolved to have the work carried out.' “Now that the dam in the Ohinemuri River at the Karabgahake Gorge has been removed, and no likelihood of further, erosion of the bank, I would recommend that the point just’ below the dam be cut off and the toad widened. The material’from the point can be used in widening the bank on the river side. This work can alto be done by the surfaceman. —Agreed to. > - “In company with the chairman the railway officials! were met at Waikino, and an inspection was'made, of the site oif the proposed alteration tot he cattle and sheep pens, and there is every likelihood olf the work being carried but by the department.” The chairman intimated that nothing further hafi been heard from the Railway Department.
