RECORD TOURIST PARTY.
400 SELECTED TRIPPERS. CHARTER OF THE Next February will see the arrival in New Zealand of the largest tourist party that has ever visited New Zealand. The new and palatial passenger liner Franconia has been chartered by Messrs Thos. Cook and Seta, for a de. luxe world’s tour, and with 400 selected passengers will leave New York on January 12, and after a visit to Jamaica, Panama, and California, will come across the Pacific, arriving in Wellington on Februa'ry 23. The big liber will arrive in Auckland a few days, before that, and some 400 tourists will be conveyed in special trains to Rotorua and from there down to Tamarunui. The task of transporting 400 people down the Wanganui River in one day has! never before been attempted by the river service, but even this far ahead all arrangements have been made to bring the Franconians along in one solid phalanx. After Wellington the liner is- to go south, and en routes to Hobart and Melbourne, will visit Milford Sound. Mr R. J. Anwyl, generaj manager for Cook’s for Australasia, is; at present in New Zealand,, going over the ground to be travelled by the party in company with the tours manager (Mr Cove), who' will then return to New York to organise the party, with a first-hand knowledge of the itinerary.
