A start has not yet been made with the erection of the new shed at Waitakaruru to replace the wharf shed which was blown dclwn in the gale some months ago. The wrecked building was 'removed at the beginning of last week. The new shed: is being paid for by public subscription augmented by a vote of £3O by the County Council and £l5 by the local branch of the Fanners’ Union. A con-' tract has, been let to complete the work within a month.

A novel form of sport, so far as Paeroa is concerned, is to take place to-morrow afternoon. Weather permitting, the newly farmed Pa.eroa Gun Club proposes,' to hold a practice shoot at one of Mr T. P. Vuglar’s paddocks, off Te Aroha Road. A hearty invitation is extended to spOrtsimen to attend, and 'to take their own ammunition.

At the Ohinemuri County Council meeting yesterday Cr. C. Mason was appointed the council’s! representative on the Waikino School of Mines.

The total amount df school teachers’ salaries and allowances for the year ended March 31, 1926, was £l,■■737,1.33, or £53,070 more than in the previous year. These figures do not include, the equivalent of house allowance ,w'heh residences! are provided, estimated at. £50,148, iior thei additional .amounts paid to head teachers tor the -supervision of secondary departments of district high schools. It is evidently the intention of the Lands Department to make an early start with the work of completing the metalling of the Canal Road, Waitakaruru. A locomotive was sent from Kerepeehi to- Waitakaruru on Tuesday last.

The local Boy Scouts were granted the use of a shed in Junction Street in which to hold band practices by the Ohinemuri County Council at its meeting yesterday.
