INCIPIENT FIRE.
SHAREDIILKER’S COTTAGE SAVED. PROMPT ACTION BY ROADMEN. Shortly after 2.39 o’clock on Wednesday afternoon 1 firn broke cut in a sha.remilker’s cottage owned by Mr L. E. Cassrels, situated on Te Aroha Road, and occupied by Mr W. F. Wells and hisi wife.
A number of county workmen, who were repairing the road not far from the cottage, hearing Mrs Wells calling for help, hurried to the rescue. Fortunately the fire was in an in cipient stage, and with the aid of buckets and a, good pressure of water the .outbreak was quelled. The ceiling, weather-boards, and lining bciayds were badly 'charred, and the interior of the cottage and furnishings were damaged by smoke and water. Had it not been for the quick response of the. workmen the cottage would have .been destroyed.
