FORTY-FIRST ANNUAL REPORT.

The Iflcffty-first annual report of the Wellington Acclimatisatiion Society ,as at March 31, 1926, discloses a. sound condition of its- affairs. Included in the receipts, which total £5932 7s 2d, are s.uch'items as fishing licenses £1345 16s, game licenses £1126 15s, and deer licenses £44.4 12s. The excess income over expenditure, transferred to the accumulated 'fund, Was £347 2s 6d for the year, making a total of £4879 14s> 9d.

Brown trout fry distributed totalled 1,078,500, rainbow trout fry 135,000, brown yearlings 5600, and rainbow yearlings 3800.

Commenting on the game shooting season, the report states.: “The season opened as, usual on May 1, and 1187 licenses were sold. The. wild weather for the opening day everywhere. was. responsible for much ammunition and more profanity; still, sportsmen enjoyed themseyes more Or less. On Lake Wairarapa five guns took 300 duck in three days. The lake was some *feet over ordinary level, and jnany vantage points were under water. The gale carried birds away, and some decoys were deserted. “Quail are not visibly on the increase, and owing to troubles in the American States the Department of Agriculture has declined to permit the importation of these birds.”
