The gate-takings at the Paeroa Domain on Saturday atfeflnoon exceeded £9O. This money is to go' towards, defraying the expenses, of the Thames Valley Rugby touring team.
The Paeroa police records show that since July 1, the date on which hotel licenses were restored to Ohinemuri electorate, 17 convictions for drunkenness have been recorded. During this period there haye also been 4 vagrancy charges, 1 assault charge, and 3 charges of using obscene language, and two prohibition orders have been issued.
Mr W. M. Sorensen, Paeroa, received a cable advising that Eh Timi gained second place in the, Yarraville Handicap, six furlongs, at the Warwick Farm meeting, near Sydney, on Satruday afternoon. It is understood that Eh Timi was. just beaten fo'r first honours by a neck, his rival being Young Lochinvar, also a New Zea-land-bred horse.
His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral has been pleased tio approve of ttie transfer of the headquarters of the Ist battalion of the Hauraki Regiment from Morrinsville to Paeroa. as from July 1, 1926.
The N.Z. Meat Producers’ Bo,ard has been advised by its London manager that owing to general outbreaks of foot and mouth disease in Scotland which had been definitely trace.d»,to pigs from Holland and Belgium sent to several curing establishments in Scotland, the British Government has announced a definite, embargo oh .all fresh meat from the Continent of Europe. This will definitely prohibit the importation of Dutch pork, beef, veal, and mutton, a,nd also all importations of Danish veal and pork. Mr P. Everett, Government orchard instructor, who gave a demonstration with an accompanying lecture, on matters pertaining to fruit a,nd fruit trees at Paeroa on July 23, in his general comment on orchards throughout the Auckland province that he had professionally visited recently, paid a tribute, to the condition of thq fruit trees in the Thames and Tauranga districts. In thes.e districts, he said, the orchards were in fairly good shape, but he could not say so much for the Ohinemuri district. The profits on the Waitcimo Caves and Hostol during 1924-25 were £2975. For the year 1923-24 the profit was £4653. The regular meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board is to be held at Te Aroha to-morrow.
