LOCAL RAINFALL.

JULY VERY WET MONTH* From observations taken at tlie Paertfa office qf the Public Woi'ks Department the figures show that the local rainfall during July constituted something of a record for the borough. Although rain 'fell on eleven days of the month, the quantity recorded was unusuajly heavy. The total rainfall for the month was 11.35 inches, and of that quantity 8.74 inches. fell during July 10, 11, and 12. The heaviest fall was on Sunday, July 11, when 5.40 inches were recorded. Following this rain the la.st flood manifested iitsellf, when the storm-water caused so much inconvenience.

For the corresponding month last year the total was 6.11 inches, which is 5.24 inches less than ip July this year.

The total rainfall for the Seveii months of! this year is 35.78 inches, compared with 24.53 inches for the first seven months last year. The highest the thermometer reached last month was on Monday, July 26, when 62 degrees were registered. The coldest day was July '5, when the temperature dropped to 36 degrees. The barometer 'readings aveflaged 30.15. The prevailing wind was from a south-westerly direction for 20 day's in the month, but on the day of the heavy raintail the wind w’as from the east 5 degrees.
