MAIN TRUNK ACCIDENT.

TRUCKS DERAILED NEAR POKENO.

PASSENGERS TO TRANSFER.

Seventeen waggons of the Auck-land'-Wellington express goods train, which left at 7.50 o’clock li\st evening, were derailed near Pokeno, about 40' miles from Auckland, shortly before midnight. As .a result the Main Trunk line has been blocked. Immediate steps were taken by the railway authorities to deal with the situation, and a breakdown train was, assembled at Newmarket as rapidly as possible and despatched to the scene, of the accident.

Two passenger trains were also being prepared at one o’clock this morning. They were to proceed to Pokeno to pick up the passengers coming north from Wellington and other Main Trunk stations by the limited and ordinary Main Thunk express, The passengers will transfer at the sce.ne of the 'Occident, Latest advice is to the effect that the.obstruction caused by the derailment will entail a good deal of work before the line is again clea,r. One estimate was six hours’ work for the breakdown gangs.

A special engine drawing a crane left Paeroa for the scene of the accident this morning.
