KEREPEEHI.

CHILDREN’S DANCE.

A. children's dance was held in the Kerepeelii Dall on Wednesday evening last for the purpose of providing a suitable function at which to present the school football team with the cup donated by Mr J. Terrill for annual competition among Hauraki Plains school toutball teams.

The Kerepeehi team did not suffer defeat during the season and secured one point less than the possible through a drawn game.

The dance was purely a local one, so the number of dancers was not very large. 'The children were given every opportunity to dance, as a euchre tournament was held for the adults. Mrs Frecklington .and Mr SGarret were the prize-winners, while Mrs Troughton and Mr J. H. Nicholson were awarded the consolation prizes. Misses Caldwell, Fax, Thompson, and Mrs Hudson .took turns at the piano.

The proceeds of the dance went to augment the township street lighting fund.

Immediately after, supper the presentation was made by Mr J. Costello, president of the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union, who was introduced, together with Mr J. Terrill, donor of the trophy, by Mr Nicholson. Mr Nicholson spoke of the keenness of the members of the team and the great improvement in the standard of play during the season. The competition had brought out the best in the boys, and .they had played the game. Mr Nicholson thanked the coach of the team, Mr E. Smart, the schoolmaster, and: the ladies who had provided the refreshments. Mr Costello said th,at he was: very pleased to have the opportunity of presenting the Kerepeehi boys with the trophy they had so deservedly won. No team begrudged the team its win, and great credit was due to its coach. Mr Costello thanked Mr Terrill for his thoughtful action in giving a trophy which, he hoped, would be. contested flor many years. The boys of to-day were .the representative players ‘of to-morrow, and it was pleasing to’ see the enthusiasm with which, they entered into the game and profited by the instruction given. The cup would: be an incentive to them to go forward and strive to hold it for many years.

The cup was; received by Master L. Nicholson, captain of the team, who l briefly responded. Cheers were then give.ll I for the donor of the cup and Bor the other teams.

PATETONGA. FANCY DRESS BALL. The hall, especially decorated for the biccasion, made a. charming and effective background for the numerous fancy costumes.
