HOCKEY.
SATURDAY’S MATCH. WAITAKARURU defeats paeroa. On Saturday the Paeroa- La,dies’ Hockey team journeyed to Waitakaruru, where an exciting match was played, resulting in a win for the home team by 2 goals to 1. From the bully-off WaitakaHiru attacked and kept the visiting backs busy for some time. The Paeroa forwards made some good runs, but the defence was too solid. From tight play in the circle Miss Mavis Beaver shot a hard goal just before time. On resuming after the spell the Paeroa forwards carried into their opponents’ circle, where Mis o ! V. Shand shot a good goal. After a, spell for some time on account of the heavy rain the game was resumed, and in close play among the forwards Waitaka'ruru succeeded in registering another goal, the game ending without any further scores being added. After the players had scrapped and washed the mud from their clothes and persons they were hospitably entertained by the Waitakaruru club before 'undertaking the- return journey.
