ODDFELLOWSHIP.
BRO. WALTER NORTH HONOURED. PRESENTATION FROM LODGE. At the conclusion of ordinary busiiie(ss fc 6 l f the Loyal Jubilee Lodges M.U., J.0.0.F., at Paeroa on Monday, an hour was spent in harmony. There was a large attendance of members, including representatives of the Pa,eroa Truids and Loyal Kat angahake lodges. The opportunity was taken to formally farewell Bro. Walter North, P.G., who has left the district to take up his residence at Morrinsville. On behalf of the lodge members BroNorth was presented with a handsome g. Id emblem, suitably inscribed, which is only awarded to members t’er meritorious service, and also a P’ st Grand’s apron.
In making the presentation Bro. W. L. Lawrence, P.G., referred to the sterling work Bro. North had performed during the six years he had held the office of financial secretary. By his businesslike' methods, tact, and enthusiasm Bro. North had made his naine in Oddfellowship circles not only in Pa : eroa, but throughout the Auckland province. Many brethren had good reason to be grateful to Bro. North for the way Im had “fathered” and cared for them in times of sickness and distress. He. had set a high standard of efficiency in the lodge, and his willingness to assist the cause, combined with his knowledge of Oddfellowship and enthusiasm, had won him a wide circle of friends. The lodge, would be considerably the poorer by his removal, and earnest good wishes for his fufture Were expressed.
Bro. J. Rackham, of Loyal Karangahake Lodge, and Bro. P. Angle, of the; Paeioa Druids Lodge, also expressed appreciation of the services rendered by Bro. North.
In rising to respond Bro. North was loudly applauded, and the members rose, and sang “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” Bro. North said that it ha ; d been a, labour of love to work in the interests of the lodge members, and he had always endeavoured to inculcate the true fraternal a.nd philanthropic spirit into bis work. He was deeply appreciative of the eulogistic references accorded him, and was grateful for the handsome tokens of este.em that he ha.d received. During the evening Bro. W. TPower, P-G., on behalf of the members, .presented Bro. K. L. Slyfield, V.G., with a fountain pen as a slight token of the esteem in which he was held, and also to mark the appreciation of members for the work lie had done as secretary of the lodge’s social committee.
Br. Slyfield suitably 'responded. A short toast-list was honoured, after which the floor was cleared tor da.ncing.
