The adjourned annual meeting of the Ohinemuri Licensing Committee will be continued at the Courthouse, Paeroa, at noon to-morrow.
The local postmaster (Mr W. E. Ward) stated at Monday night’s meeting of the Chamber of Commerce that arrangements had been made for the erection at an early da,te of a s.ta.mp vending machine. It would be installed outside the post office building, and would be available to the public at all times.
The charge of alleged carnal knowledge. of a girl under the age of 14 years which was preferred against an elderly Maori named Rota. Haati, a. labourer, of Omajiu, yras heard before Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M„ at the Police Court, Paeroa, on Monday. Mr E. J. Clendon appeared, for the accused and Senior-Sergeant Maclean conducted the. prosecution. The Court was cleared. After hearing the evidence the Magistrate dismissed the case on its merits, there being a great deal of doubt as to the age of the girl in question.
Se.rgt.-Major A. Steward, M.M., of Morrinsville, has been transferred to the headquarters of the Hauraki Regiment at Paeroa.
The decomposed body of Edward Herbert Scholtz, who had been missing' from Waikino since May 24', has been found by Mr Maurice Crimmins, farmer, of Waikino, in the Wajtekauri Week about the spot where deceased was last seen alive. -
A young man named Allan Crawford (20) appeared before Mr W. E. Busch, J.P., at the Waihi Police Court on Tuesday charged with the theft at Tauranga on June 12 ofc a motor-car, valued at £240, the property of C. FJ. Biggs. On the application of the police accused, who was arrested at Aongatete on Sunday by .Senior-Ser-genat Maclea,n and Constable O’Neil, was remanded to appear at Tauranga on Monday, July 5. The car, taken from the main street in Tauranga, was subsequently abandoned at Paeroa, a,nd between the time of its disappearance and recovery had been driven a distance of 1200 miles.
At yesterday’s meeting of the Thames Valley Power Board a firin of Wellington brokers, wrote offering to procure certain loan moneys for the board. In the. course df their application they stated that a cablegra.m had been received from their London agents to the effect that money, to any extent, was available for Zealand local body . loans.

At yesterday’s meeting of the Tha.mes Valley Power Board the chairman (Mr F. M. Strange) extended a welcome to Mr H. R. Bush, who has been elected to represent the Thames Borough on the board. Mr Strange said that the board was fortunate in having Mr Bush, with his wide experience of local body affairs, as a member.
