OHINEMURI HOTELS.
FURTHER PROGRESS REPORTS* SEVERAL NEARLY READY. At the request of the Ohinemuri Licensing Committee th© following evidence in connection with buildings the subject of applications for publican’s licenses was tendered at the sitting at Paeroa on Monday last: — CRITERION HOTEL, PAEROA.
Mr B. Franklin, chief health officer, Auckland district, reported that at the Criterion Hotel, Paeroa, all conditions were being complied with, and only essential work remained to be completed. The beds and bedding complied wit.h the Act. Certain structural alterations were in course of completion.
For the Police Department SeniorSergeant Maclean said that he agreed with the report, but much remained to be done .to bring it up to the standard. ® the application had been for a renewal of license in the ordinary, probably the completion of the work would not be insisted upon before a license was l granted, but the circumstances were different. The chairman pointed out that the Health Department had reported t.hat the house was ready for a, license.
Senior-Sergeant Maclean contended that it was not yet ready. Mr E. W. Porritt, for the licensee, said that the drainage <yid sanitary conveniences were completed and had been passed. The bar would be completed tha,t afternoon, as also would the iron fire-escape. The house was carrying 35 people' at the present time, and there had been on an average between 30 and 40 persons in the house ’for months past. The convenience of the public had been studied, and as a consequence the internal renovations had be.en delayed. The licensee had done his utmost, and ih face of many difficulties. He contended that a license might be granted that day.
The Chairman: In spite of the police report ? Mr Porritt replied that the police could only refer to the papering and painting of a passage and a few bedrooms which were occupied by boarders. The chairman said that the view the members took was that the house was not quite ready. COMMERCIAL HOTEL, PAERGA. Mr Frajnklin reported that this house was completed and practically furnished. The committee’s requisition in connection with the fireescape had been given effect to. The police report was in favour of a license being granted. Decision was deferred until Thursday next. WAIKINO HOTEL. The work on thes'e premises would not be completed until Monday nextThe police report stated that the building would not be really for about a fortnight. ROB ROY HOTEL, WAIHI. It was reported that all essential work had been completed, and the premises should be ready ’for a license in a couple of days. The police agreed with the report. COMMERCIAL, WAIHL
The inspector’s report stated that this building would not be. ready for some time. Mr W. M. Jackson, for the licensee, explained that a difficulty had arisen over the sewerage, system, but the work was now well under way and the requisitions of the committee were being complied with. The chairman intimated that from what the committee, had heard, and from its own observations of the various buildings, none df them was ‘actually ready for the reception of a license that day. It was proposed to adjourn the meeting until Thursday, July 1, when such houses as were ready, in the opinion of the committee. would be granted licenses. The meeting would then be further adjourned until Monday, July 5, when applications would be further considered, together with public health and police reports.
