PLAINS COUNTY.
SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING. A special meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council was held at Ngatea on Thursday, Cr. E. L. Walton presiding over the following: Crs. A. S. Fisher, J. A, Reid, H. H. Hicks, C. W. Parfitt, C. W. Harris, F. J. M.ayn, the clerk (Mr E. A. Mahoney) and the engineer (Mr F. Bashaim). STANDING ORDERS. The first business was the consideration and amendment of the standing orders. It was decided to make, an .alteration to provide for all 'accounts to be approved by the Finance Committee, which was later set up. Several alterations were made to the, order of routine of. business at meetings of the council. Dealing with the powers of committees, it was decided tha.t the limit of expenditure of any committee be £5O. The rules were adopted.
In accordance with rule 13, the chairman moved that a finance committee be set up, comprising Cis. Harris, Hicks, Fisher, and Mayn, and a works committee comprising Crs. Miller, Madgwick, Payfitt, and Reid, the county chairman to be ah exoflicio member of each committee and three members to be a quorum.
The .several motions were carried. The members of the Finance Committee were authorised to sign cheques on behalf of the county. The - council then discussed and adopted a policy to be followed and matters concerning the county reading scheme, Piako River wha.rves, and general business, of which separate reports have been published.
