HAURAKI PLAINS UNION.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE.

Thq management committee of the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union met at Ngatea on Wednesday evening, Mr JCostello presiding over Messrs J. H. Nicholson, W. Thompson, H. L. Berncy, C. S, Foster, J. Reed, ajid W. Wylde, secretary. PEACE CUP MATCH. Considerable discussion took place relative to the proposed matches against Thames for .the Peace Cup and the annual match at Ngatea owing to the clashing of dates with the Thames Valley Union’s matches. It was reported that Thames was prepared to reverse the dates and play at Ngatea on July 24 and for the Peace Cup on August 7, and this was supported by Mr Berney, but otheis opposed it on the score that it would be unsporting to ha,ve a match at Ngatea on the day of the Thames Vajley selection match at Paeroa. The second round of the Poland Cup competition had not been drawn, and it would not be fair to send a secondgrade team while the firstngrade team went to Thames to boost the Thames Union’s finances. Then there was the question of the interruption of the inter-club competition and .the consequent alienation of the support of the public.

The question then arose as to whether it was worth while sending a team for the Peace Cap match. The’-e was little chance of winning when the pick of .the Plains players were away with the Thames Valley touring team on August 7. Mr Foster expressed the opinion that the challenge should be withdrawn, a,nd moved in that directionHe said, that if the Plains Union had £2o' or so to throw away in sending a, team to Thames it slhoiuld give the money to the Thames Valley Union, which was the Plains Union’s parent body, and which was doing its best to help the Plains. After much discussion the motion was withdrawn in favour of one deferring the question until the next meeting.

SELECTION OF REPRESENTATIVES

The. following recommenda t tions were received from the Referees’ Association and deferred till the next meeting for consideration ;• — “That this association views with 'regret that the. representative team selected to play Paeroia; includes players whose form in representative matches does not justify their being persevered with, and that many players with stronger claims to representative honours have been excluded, “That it be ma.de a rule of the union that in future the selection of the team for representative matches be submitted to the union for its approval before the personnel is made public.” TRANSFERS. The transfer of S. Chapman from the United Coast club to the Turua club was approved. SCHOOL MATCHES. It was reported that a desire had been expressed for school team matches with teams from other districts, and the secretary was instructed to go into the matter with the schoolmasters and report to the union. SATURDAY’S MATCH. Arrangements were made for the. match on Saturday next against, Paeroa at Ngatea, and duties were detailed. As a curtains, adser a game will be played between the Ngatea and Kerepeehi junior teams at 1.30 p.m. The next meeting of the union will be held on Tuesday next.
