THAMES BOROUGH.
ESTIMATED BATES FOR 1926-27. FIFTY PER CENT. INCREASE 1 . It is estimated that a 50 per cent, increase in-rates will be necessary in Thames Borough for the year 1926-27. Last year the total rates amounted to 13 P 25d in the £, and for the current year it is estimated by the town clerk that the rates will total 19.69 d in the old borough are,a and 19.11 d in the suburban a ; rea.
The general rate will be reduced by %d, ,to 5%d, but special rates’ for refuse collection will be increased from 12.29 d to 14‘.25d, the hospital rate by l-5d to 1 l-sd, the street lighting by l-10d to Id, water by %d to l%d, sewerage from Id to 3 9-20 d, Kopu ferry from 3-20 d to 7-50 d. New rates include 2%d for street improvements, 3-10 d for the second quajry loan in addition to an increase from l-5d to l-3d on the first loan, 19-50 d for Kopu bridge, and 6 25d for The 3-50 d 'rate for the baths is deleted, and the. following rates have been reduced: Kanaka bridges' by l-AOd, borough loan by 1-4'Ofl, streets and buildings by l-20d, and streets completion 'rate from 9-250 d to 3-80 d.
