FANCY DRESS BALL. gp With the object of raising funds for the financing of the township street lights a fancy dress ball was held in the Kerepeehi Hall last evening. About' 30 couples were present, but as most of the ladies of the district had been busily engaged in preparing the numerous paper flowers and caps used, cooking for the supper, or decorating the hall, very few of them had prepared f.a,ncy costumes •for themselves. The. prize for the best paper dress was won by Mis's Griffin (Bacchante), the prize for the prettiest costume by x Mrs Callagher (Queen of Hearts), and the prizes for the most original dresses by Mrs Boswell (Folly) and Miss Dixon (knitting bag). Others- in fancy costume were Mrs W. Kidd, Pierrette ; Mrs Mclntosh, briar rose ; Miss M. Thompson, Eastern costume; Mrs Hands, Pierrette; and Miss Mitchell. good luck. Good dance music was Supplied by a Paeroa orchestra, and many novelty dances were introduced, so the. evening passed quickly and enjoyably. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Dixon and Mr E. Smart. The function was very successful, and a, word of praise is due to the ladies for their efforts.
