The sixty-first, match tor the Brown Shield is scheduled to be played tor by the N.Z. Football Association at Hamilton between representatives of South Auckland which includes this district) and Poverty Bay, the headquarters of which are at Gisborne, next Saturday. The shield is a magnificent trophy, and was presented in 1891, by Robert Brown, of Glasgow, being consistently contested for at least, every season, in some cases, four times in a season.

The South Auckland side comprises eight Hamilton district, and three Huntly district players, and careful preparations have been made to ensure the team’s fitness for the gaine, which ranks as the most important ever staged in Hamilton under the code-

The Poverty Bay side includes Phil. Roots, an ex-Internationa.l centre-half of matured ability, and they will arrive in Hamilton, travelling via Napier.

Trains from most parts have been delayed until after the conclusion of the match, which can, by the. way, be described as a real “knock-out” contest, as unless a definite decision is arrived at after ninety minutes’ play an extra ten minutes each way will have to be played.
