The adjourned annual meeting of the Ohinemuri Licensing Committee will be continued at the Courthouse, Paeroa, on Friday a,t 10 a.m.

The property and buildings known as the Ga,iety Theatre, in Wharf Street, Paeroa, and offered by public auction at Hamilton on Saturday, tailed to find a purchaser, as the reserve price wa,s not reached.

A middle-aged man, a, first offender, appeared before Mr W. Marshall, J-P-, at the Court, Paeroa, on Monday, charged with drunkenness. A conviction was recorded and the amount of bail, £l, was forfeited.

Following on showers during the day, on Monday night a he,avy thunderstorm, accompanied by lightning passed over Paeroa,. Yesterday there were several heavy sleet shdwers during tne; day, and last night it commenced to freeze soon after sunset This morning a hea.vy white m.antle of frost covered the 1 ground, followed by a bright sunshiny day.

A start was made yesterday molding with the dismantling of the band rotunda in front of the post office, preparatory to its removal to a new site on the old railway station reserve.

The, disadvantage of leaving a. house insecurely locked when untenanted at Thames was shown at Monday’s meeting of the Hospital Board. When recommending that certain minor repairs should be. effected to the medical superintendent’s residence the secretary (Mr G. Toiige) reported that although the house had been empty only since the Saturday an entry had been gained through the bathroom window a,nd two 16-candle-powe;r electric lights, bulbs stolen. It was decided to take immediate steps to lock all the windows and secure the doors, pending the arrive,! of the new medical superintendent.

' The decision of the ratepayers of the Hauraki drainage district at Thursday’s meeting to support the Drainage, Board in opposing the proposal of the Horahia Board to have the two districts • united does not mean that they do not favour ultimate amalgamation. The opinion of the Hauraki Board supported by the ratepayers was that amalgamation should be deferred until such time as the Horahia Board had completed the spending of its loan and wa,s on a similar basis to the Hauraki Board in that its function was to merely maintain the existing works.

In connection with the report of a motor-cycle, accident that occurred near Ngatea. on Saturday, June 5, it was erroneously stated that there were no lights on the motor-cycle.
