HOCKEY.

WAIHI DEFEATS PAEROA. LAST SATURDAY’S MATCH. At the local domain on Saturday last the Paeroa, Ladies/ Hockey Club Was defeated by the 'Waihi ladies’ club by 2 goals to 0. The game; was fast and interesting throughout. The visitors h.ad the stronger team, which comprised a number of experienced representative players. The local eleven, although beaten, were, by no means, disgraced. The backs particularly played together well, and their defensive work had much to commend it. The weakness lay in the forward division, the players appearing to lack the required “zip” when the. ba,ll reached the circle, and several opportunities to score were lost through this reason. For the winners goals were shot by Misses C. Inglis a,nd D. O’Neill.

The following have been selected to represent the local club against Thames on Saturday: Misses P. Treanor, N. Finnie, H. Shand, G. Finnic, V. Shand, F. Shaw, B. Bunting, L. McKee, M. Tierney, A. Morlaiid, C. Swann. Emergencies: Misses P. Caseby, B. Gibb, J. Holes. The place where the, ma,tch is to be played, and .the time, will appear in Friday’s “Gazette.”
