PIAKO RIVER WHARVES.

OFFER TO COUNTY COUNCIL. DEPARTAIENT’S CONDITIONS. At Thursday’s meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council the following letter was received from the Chief Drainage Engineer, Mr 0. N. Campbell, with reference to the Piako River wharves: — “In reply to your letter of the sth inst. I have to advise that in the event of your council taking over the wharves the price will be written down to a minimum of £3500. Payments may be made by instalments extending over a period up to 21 years, if necessary, with interest at the rate of 5 per cent. “The wharves are located at the following places : Patetonga, Mangawhero, Kajhere, Kerepeehi, Puhamga, Johnstone's, Ngatea, Paul’s, Horahia, Rayverawe, Hopai, Pipiroa, Kopuarahi, Shelly Beach, and Waitakaruru; The Lands Department’s depot wharf at Kerepeehi is not included.” The Thames Harbour Board advised that a copy of the above letter had been received for the board’s comments. Before doing so, the board desired to know the council’s attitude. The clerk was instructed to reply to the effect that the matter would be considered in a fortnight’s time.
