The weather was ideal, and there was a fair attendance of the public at the Paeroa Domain on Saturday afternoon to witness the two senior matches, East v. Suburbs and West v. Netherton. Probably the last mention match attracted the greater attention. The visitors had the heavier team, which was in good folrm, the backs particularly at times giving a sparkling exhibition of Rugby. The home team played a, hard game, and the contest was a very even struggle. The West forwards combined and worked together well, but not infrequently the backs were slow’ tb show up. when support was required. W. Taylor, the West captain, played his best game this season, his tackling being sure and his kicking displaying judgment and skill. The game wa f s willing and open from start to finish, and both sides were thoroughly tired at the l call of, time. Netherton was the better team on the day. The following were the teams : — Netherton. —G. Pullar, C. McNeil, W. Potter, H. Coldicutt, H. Wright, J. Catlin, Burt, R. Morrison, G. Fisher,, J. Morrison, T. Johnson, E. Johnson, .E' Fisher, T. Pullar, T. Richmond, C. Hayward. West. —B. Rae, G. Wells, F. Jenyns, R. Swann, B. Hardman, L. Nield, L. Masters,, M. Poland, E. Neil,, H. McKee, V. Ca-rrick, R. Shaw, W. Taylor, T' Green, T. Dawson. Netherton kicked off, and after a lengthy bout of kicking West essayed a loose rush and carried into the visitors’ twenty-five, where a breach occurred. Taylor pla.ced a good go J. West 3, Netherton 0. The balance of the quarter was characterised by fast open play, the honours being with the visitors. Immediately after the change over Netherton attacked, but the home forwards were equal to the pressure. After a scramble J. Morrison headed a passing rush, but offside play negatived the. movement. Taylor took the kick and registered a good goal. West 6, Netherton 0. The remainder of the quarter was fast and open, centring chiefly round West’s twenty-five.

On resuming after half-time there was little to note, both teams working with a will. The West forwards weakened a little towards the end of the spell, but the. backs held up and presented a good defence. In the: opening stages of the final round, from a jine-out Coldicutt secured and passed to R. Morrison, who dived over near the coiner. T. Johnson failed with the kick. West 6, Netherton 0. The visitors again applied pressure following’ the kick-out, and after carrying down to West’s twenty-five a broach occurred. Taylor’s kick was blocked. The home forwards, headed by Carrick and Shaw, carried into Nethertoh’s twentyfive, where offside spoiled the movement, G. Pull ar clearing to neutral territory. From a scrum near halfway T. Johnson gained possession and scored a good try. G. Pullar failed to convert. Netherton 6, West 6. A line-out inside West’s twenty-five resulted in T. Johnson again getting possession, and he passed to Coldicutt, who made a good run and scored near the corner. T. Pullair failed with the kick. Netherton 9, West 6,. Mr E. Smith was r'efereee.

SUBURBS V. EAST. This game was played on the No. 2 ground, and wa.s a close contest and exciting throughout. The East team made a good showing, and offered stubborn resistance, specially when it is considered that a number of the players in both the forward and back divisions had just come off the field after playing i.n a junior game against West. The teams were fairly evenly matched, Suburbs, perhaps, being a little the heavier. The following were the teams :— ■Suburbs.—G. Hake, T. .Bennett, E. Bennett, H. Morrison, Wyatt, Harper, L. Rice, Canna, Duncan, Saunders, Kil.lgour, A- Bennett, M. Brown, Lovett, Mills. East. —A. Williams, G. Masters, J. Walls, Johnston, H. Moore, D. Smith, H. Thorp, C. Treanor, Bryan, Lloyd, Robinson,- Radford, G. Radford, J. Goona.il, W. Bullock. The visitors kicked off, and by good 'following up .E Bennett gained possession and scored in a good positionHis kick was unsuccessful. Suburbs 3, E'ast 0. Following the kick-out Suburbs suffered a penalty and H. Thorp kicked a neat goal from a good position. Suburbs 3, East 3. A nice passing rush between the East -backs enabled D. Smith to score near the corner. The kick wa,s unsuccessful. East 6, Suburbs 3.. West wa.s played as a curtain-raiser on the No. 1 ground. The teams were evenly matched, and the game was more

closely contested than the scores indicate. The yellow and blacks defeated their opponents by 17 points to 6. In the first half East scored 14 points to West’s 0. For East ti'ies were scored by Spinks (2), Radford, Lloyd, and Goonan, .and N. Neil converted a try. C. Nield scored a try and Bigelow kicked a ; penalty goal for West. Mr W. T.
